The Joy of Sound

After my eight week ultrasound, the fertility clinic told me to go find a doctor. This task was a little overwhelming to me. There are a ton of OB's out there and I wanted to find the best. Additionally, there are multiple hospitals to choose from. I began by picking a hospital, and chose the Tacoma General hospital. It is close to where I work, and about the same distance to Valley Medical. It also happens to be closer to my Olympia family, and with many appointments in the next few months, I figured a doctor close in proximity to work would be best.

I then looked at all the doctors covered by my insurance, and finally just picked a clinic and scheduled the appointment. The appointment was on Tuesday, and I finally got to meet the Doctor who will deliver my baby (as long as I go into Labor on a weekday, or it is his on-call weekend). The Doctor is kind of lacking in personality, but he seems competent. The office is old looking, but I guess what else should I expect from downtown Tacoma, and the staff are very nice. I think I have been spoiled a little by doctors who primarily don't get paid by insurance companies and focus all their attention on customer service.

My doctors appointment consisted of me giving every detail about my medical history, which is a little complicated due to surgeries, infertility, miscarriage, etc. I had to explain multiple times that this is an IVF baby who was frozen, and the due date was calculated by the fertility clinic based on the day of transfer rather than my last menstrual period, etc. We then did a general exam, and although the Dr said you can't hear the heartbeat until about 12 weeks, he tried, and found it. It was so comforting to hear the beating heart of this little baby inside me.

I then got sent to the lab for blood draws for a whole bunch of tests. I think I was spoiled by the phlebotomist at the fertility clinic who was awesome. I think he only missed about twice in 4 years. If you get queasy, please skip the rest of this paragraph. This gal at the lab, looked at both arms, picked the left, and found a vein very close to the surface. She poked, dug, went to take it out, and realized she was getting some, but then didn't hold the needle in properly, and blood was squirting out of my arm. It is a good thing I don't get queasy. She called her partner in to do the other two vials which went fine. I have given a lot of blood samples in my last 10 years or so, but never has it been so eventful. I guess there is a first time for everything, and it was kind of funny I thought.

I went back in today to meet with the nurse, and she gave me lots of reading, and went over what to expect for the pregnancy. It was informative, but I don't think there was much new info as I have done a bunch of research anyway. My next appointment is November 10th, at 14 weeks, and then on December 17, I will have my 20 week ultrasound. Dusty thinks we are having a little girl, and I am quite unsure. Any votes?

What we have been up to

The last couple weeks have been relatively quiet in the Lybbert residence. I enjoyed a night out with the girls at a party. I usually don't go, but this one was for food. It was very tasty.

We went to see the Broadway production Wicked (the story of the witches of Oz). It was very good, and a great evening with my parents.

We attended one of David's football games where he got a lot of playing time. They beat N. Kitsap 73-7. It was kind of sad really. N. Kitsap scored 4 points for Capital just by tossing the ball over the punters head into the end zone. We were happy David got to play, and Capital won, but it was a little sad too.

We attended a funeral for a family friend. We are good friends with his kids, but in May, he had a stroke and had been in a coma since. It was hard for the family to see him go, but it was also hard for them not knowing if he would every wake up. The funeral services were very nice, and we will miss him.

General Conference was a joyous event as always, and we enjoyed the messages that were shared. I am very excited to get the Ensign and re-read all the articles. We spent most of the weekend at the Sants and my parents and the Blakes also came up to visit for the event. I always love getting to spend time with family.

Dusty has been working out a lot, and it is really beginning to show. I wish I could keep up with him, but most of the time, I just feel like a tired blob. I think he has now lost a total of about 20 pounds, and has about 15 to go before he will earn his TV. He then wants to continue his plan so he will be in tip top shape before the baby arrives.

I have been spending my time sleeping, or researching on everything we will need to prepare before Little Lybbert joins us in May. I am constantly shocked by how expensive everything is, but I know from talking with my sisters, that it will be better if we get the good stuff. I just want to be prepared, and I feel like there isn't that much time.

We are just plugging away at life through work, family events, and fun.
