What a week!

Living in the Pacific Northwest, snow happens, but not very often, and when it happens, it doesn't last very long.  This week was a bit unusual for this area.  On Sunday morning, we woke up to a little bit of snow,  It snowed throughout the day, and Monday morning we had a little dusting remaining.

Monday Morning

We still had some on Tuesday morning, but it turned to rain, and melted it all.  However, Wednesday morning, we woke up to this.  About 6 inches of beautiful powdery snow.

We took Alice Sledding, and built a Snowman.  We had a delightful time with Daddy as he stayed home from work.

On Wednesday night, the snow stopped, but it began raining.  Not the melt the snow type we usually get, but the kind where the atmosphere is warmer than the surface, so it freezes the moment it hits something.  This is Freezing rain.

Thursday morning we woke up to this amazing sight.  Dusty again stayed home since there was a shell of ice about 3/8 of an inch thick sealing his car shut.

The freezing rain did a lot of damage to the trees all over.  Due to the heavy weight of the ice, tree branches were breaking off all day on Thursday.  We lost power around noon on Thursday.  We were one of the 270,000 PSE customers without power.  Fortunately, ours was restored around 3 or 4 am Friday morning, but there are still many in our region without power.

Things are melting, but there are still remnants of the snow and ice.  It has been quite a week, and we feel very fortunate that we were so lucky to be without power for so short a time, and to have hot water and a gas fireplace.  I am also thankful we have a vehicle that can drive in adverse weather conditions.  Sometimes, I think we need a storm to help remind us of how richly we are blessed.
